Breaking News: After enduring years of hardship, Brother Sergey Melnik is finally free!
On December 18, 2025, a significant moment occurred as Brother Sergey Melnik was released from a Russian prison colony. He had been sentenced on September 23, 2021, to a six-year prison term. Taking into account his time in pretrial detention, his sentence is now complete.
During his imprisonment, Sergey was moved between several different facilities. In the prison colony, he was assigned to work in the kitchen. It's truly inspiring to learn that his positive attitude and willingness to cooperate earned him the respect of those around him. Imagine facing such difficult circumstances—separated from family and enduring unpleasant conditions—yet maintaining a joyful spirit. That's resilience!
Before his sentencing, Sergey shared his preparations for the possibility of imprisonment. He stated, "I am determined to maintain my friendship with Jehovah. I never miss an opportunity to read the Bible and to pray, no matter what circumstances I am in. And I try to be with Jehovah’s people as much as possible. Most of all, I am resolved never to give in to fear. I am confident that the words found at 2 Kings 6:16 are true: ‘Do not be afraid! For there are more who are with us than those who are with them.’”
But here's where it gets controversial... This case, like many others, raises questions about religious freedom and the treatment of individuals based on their beliefs. What are your thoughts on this? Do you believe his faith played a significant role in his ability to endure? We'd love to hear your perspective. Let us know in the comments below!
