He points out that an ACA plan could have a deductible of $8,500 with an out-of-pocket maximum exceeding $10,000, which he rightly calls unaffordable for most.
But here's where it gets controversial... Woods also emphasizes that the uninsured often face higher out-of-pocket expenses for hospital visits compared to those with insurance. He uses the examples of a serious car accident or a cancer diagnosis at a young age to illustrate how quickly medical bills can escalate into the tens of thousands of dollars.
According to ACA Open Enrollment Public use data from 2025, a significant number of residents in the surrounding counties were insured under the ACA: 4,537 in Columbiana County, 10,655 in Mahoning County, and 8,629 in Trumbull County. This data underscores the widespread impact of these changes.
