The Memphis Grizzlies are finally finding their rhythm — and it’s showing on and off the court.
After a thrilling 133-128 overtime victory against the New Orleans Pelicans in the NBA Cup, head coach Tuomas Iisalo couldn’t stop praising his team’s unity and energy — especially from the bench. Memphis has now claimed three wins in their last four outings, but according to Iisalo, the biggest win might be the team’s growing chemistry.
Speaking after the game, Iisalo highlighted how the players’ attitude toward one another has transformed the atmosphere within the group. “It’s incredibly helpful, but what matters even more is what it reveals about this team,” he said. “They’re genuinely celebrating each other’s success. You can feel it — when one player shines, everyone else feels that joy too. It’s contagious.”
One particular example stood out. In the fourth quarter, backup center Jock Landale approached the coaching staff with a selfless request: if rookie Zach Edey was playing well, the coaches should keep him on the floor and ride the hot hand. “Those are the kinds of things that speak volumes,” Iisalo added. “That’s not just about what happens during plays. It’s about the mindset of the group. Guys on the bench aren’t thinking about minutes — they’re thinking about momentum. That’s what makes this group special.”
And here’s where it gets interesting: the Grizzlies’ struggles earlier in the season led many to question whether this revamped roster could find its groove. Now, with growing camaraderie and visible enthusiasm, the team seems to be answering those doubts on their own terms. But is this chemistry strong enough to last through the ups and downs of a full NBA season?
