Breaking news for 'Poker Face' fans: the show is canceled at Peacock, but the story isn't over! Rian Johnson, the creative mind behind the series, is determined to find a new home for it, but with a significant change – a new lead actor is stepping into the role. This decision marks a bold move for the show, promising a fresh perspective on the beloved crime procedural.
The news broke about four months after the second season of 'Poker Face,' starring Natasha Lyonne, wrapped up. While the second season didn't quite match the viewership of the first in 2023, it remained a popular show on Peacock, and reviews were overwhelmingly positive. However, the show's production costs were high, and it wasn't produced in-house by NBCUniversal. Instead, Johnson's T-Street, along with the independent studio MRC Television, were behind the production.
But here's where it gets interesting: Johnson and MRC are now looking to shop 'Poker Face' around to other networks. Due to scheduling conflicts, Natasha Lyonne will no longer be playing the lead character, Charlie Cale, who has the unique ability to detect lies. (Don't worry, she'll still be involved as an executive producer.) And this is the part most people miss: Emmy winner Peter Dinklage has already signed on to take over the role of Charlie!
The plan is to have a new lead actor portray Charlie every two seasons, assuming another network picks up the show. This 'Columbo'-inspired crime procedural is definitely keeping things fresh.
