T.J. Watt's Inspiring Return: Overcoming Injury and Ready for Action! (2026)

In a bold statement underscoring his determination, T.J. Watt has expressed his eagerness to return to the field this Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens, following a challenging recovery from a punctured lung that sidelined him for three games. "I’m really looking forward to playing," Watt shared on Friday, marking his first comments since undergoing surgery after the injury occurred on December 10. "Honestly, I wasn’t sure I’d be feeling this way even a week ago, but today I feel great and confident about my performance in practice. I can’t wait to get back out there."

Watt participated fully in practice for the first time since his injury, and he does not carry any injury status into the upcoming game. He mentioned that discussions about any limitations on his playtime have not taken place yet, as this crucial matchup is vital for both teams in the AFC North.

"It’s still early in the week," Watt explained, boasting impressive stats of seven sacks, two fumble recoveries, one interception, and ten tackles for loss this season. "I had a fantastic practice week without restrictions. I tried to replicate game situations with my shoulder pads on, but you can't fully simulate the experience. Still, I’m feeling positive right now and am hopeful that will carry through to Sunday."

Reflecting on the circumstances surrounding his hospitalization and surgery, Watt described experiencing significant pain following a dry needling treatment at the Steelers' facility. "Something just didn’t feel right," he recalled. "Not long after the treatment, I was in excruciating pain, which led to my hospital visit, and ultimately I needed surgery. The recovery process has been unique and challenging, unlike anything I’ve dealt with before. I truly appreciate the support I received throughout."

Watt noted that although he has previously undergone dry needling treatments at the team facility without incident, this particular occurrence felt like a freak accident. As a precaution, he has decided to avoid dry needling in the future.

Navigating his recovery proved to be a struggle, emphasizing how different it was from other injuries he had faced. "Spending two or three nights in the hospital is never pleasant," he admitted. "Fortunately, I have a strong support network, including my wife and family, along with incredible backing from the team. The main challenge was figuring out how to approach my return. This wasn’t an injury like a knee issue; it involved new sensations and a surgery I hadn’t experienced before. But I'm genuinely pleased with how well I’m feeling today."

Importantly, Watt clarified that he holds no resentment toward the team regarding the treatment incident. With the Steelers vying for a playoff position in their last regular-season game, Watt emphasized how vital it was for him to participate. "This game is monumental for us," he stated. "We’re essentially kicking off the playoffs early, and it’s a privilege to play at home. I’m thrilled to be back in front of Steeler Nation, ready to give everything I’ve got on the field."
